Upload the complete world folder, set level-name to that folder’s exact name, and restart the server. Use SFTP for large worlds.

Before you begin

  • Confirm that the world is from Minecraft Java Edition.
  • Keep an untouched local copy and create a server backup.
  • Stop the server before replacing or selecting a world.
  • Do not load a world in an older Minecraft version than the version that last saved it.

Upload and select the world

1

Prepare the folder

Open the world folder and confirm that level.dat, the region folder, and the other world files are directly inside it. Remove an extra wrapper folder if necessary.
2

Upload the world

Follow Manage files and SFTP and upload the complete folder to the main server directory.
3

Select the world

Open server.properties and set level-name to the exact uploaded folder name.
4

Start and verify

Start the server, read the console for conversion or loading errors, and join. Check the spawn area, inventories, Nether, and End before removing the old world.
Java and Bedrock worlds use different formats. Uploading a Bedrock world here does not convert it to Java Edition.

If the server generates a new world

Stop the server and check that:
  • level-name exactly matches the uploaded folder, including capitalization.
  • level.dat is directly inside that folder.
  • The upload completed without failed or missing files.
  • The world is compatible with the selected Java version and server software.
If the server software stores dimensions in separate folders, keep every related world folder together when transferring or restoring the world.
