Pregeneration creates and saves chunks before players explore them. This shifts terrain-generation work to a controlled period but uses additional storage.

Before you begin

  • Use Java server software that supports plugins, such as Paper or another compatible Bukkit-based server.
  • Install a Chunky release compatible with the server’s Minecraft version.
  • Create a backup.
  • Choose a reasonable center and radius based on available storage.

Pregenerate with Chunky

1

Install Chunky

Follow Install Java plugins and install the compatible Chunky .jar in /plugins.
2

Start the server

Start the server and confirm that Chunky loads successfully in the console.
3

Select the world

Replace world with the active world name.
4

Set the center and radius

Choose the center coordinates and radius in blocks.
5

Start generation

Run the task and monitor the console and storage usage.
Run chunky help for the commands supported by the installed Chunky version.
A large radius can consume substantial storage and server resources. Start with a smaller area and do not assume a completion time.

Set a world border

Keep future exploration inside the area you prepared.
