Update the world

Review compatibility
Confirm that the target Minecraft version supports your server software, plugins, mods, mod loader, datapacks, and world-generation settings. Update or remove incompatible content first.

Create an offline copy
Stop the server, create a backup, and download the world when possible. Do not rely on a copy that the running server is still writing.

Select the newer version
Follow Choose Java server software and version and select the target version. Avoid changing server software and Minecraft version in the same test when you can separate the changes.

Start once and inspect the console
Allow the server to convert and save the world. Do not interrupt it during conversion. Stop and restore the backup if the console reports an incompatible world or repeated conversion failure.

Test important areas
Check player data, spawn, dimensions, commands, farms, plugins, mods, and datapacks. New terrain features normally appear only in chunks generated after the upgrade.
